Post: Support Worker Location: Middlesbrough Hours: Full Time (37.5 hours) or Part Time (24 hours)
Salary: £9.30 per hour Closing Date: 3rd July 2020
The Role is:
To provide support to individuals in aspects of their daily life. We support people in their own homes, who may have just left hospital, recently moved to the area or who just require additional support to help them live a full and engaging life. We offer support to people on a 24 hour basis and provide full input and we also support some people using an outreach model of support and assist only in certain areas, such as attending day services or accessing the community.
You will work with the individual to help develop skills, increase independence and to develop support to build upon already existing interest bases. The individuals we support enjoy lots of varied activities and your role will be to help develop them and explore further opportunities. If successful you will be working in a core team for one individual living within Middlesbrough. There may be times you will support others however; your core support will be to the identified individuals.
There are times when there will be challenges within the role, a calm and patient approach is needed for these such occasions. Proactive measures are in place and following support plans identified and protocols for behaviour management in times of distress will be needed. Effective working in these times of high pressure and stress are imperative. As well as a full activity timetable, you will be supporting individuals to complete their normal daily living tasks. Administering and monitoring medication including side effects and effectively seeking advice if required. You will be recording daily notes and be part of planning, implementing and evaluating support plans. Effective MDT working will be required.
You will need to be:
You will need a good understanding of various diagnosis such as personality disorder, autism, learning disability and other associated conditions. You will be very proactive and want to help individuals get out and about to do the things they enjoy. You need to be resilient, Calm, respectful and a good listener.
You will need to be strong and firm in your approach and maintain consistency in your work. You will be an effective communicator, this could be with the individuals themselves or external professionals as well as the rest of your team. You will need to adapt and positively respond to mood changes, experience in dealing with situations of occurrence of behaviours which challenge is required. A good understanding of Positive Behaviour Support would be beneficial as well as experience of monitoring and reviewing data related to behaviour.
You will possess numeracy and literacy at level 2 and have a willingness to work towards an NVQ 3 in Health and Social Care. You will be fully conversant in and work fulfilling the PIPS values and ethos. You will have a natural aptitude to leadership and supervision. The support is required covering a 24-hour period and shifts will be worked to ensure the individuals needs are fully met and allow for effective support but may cover, long days, short days, early shifts or late shifts, waking nights and sleepovers. A current driving licence would be an advantage however, is not a requirement.
