Introduction
In October 2025, Positive Individual Proactive Support (PIPS) hosted its 5th Driving Up Quality Event—a day dedicated to bringing people together to reflect, share, and shape the future of support. This annual event is all about collaboration: people we support, families, staff, and managers coming together to make sure quality isn’t just a word—it’s a lived experience.
Led by Experts by Experience
The event was coproduced and led by The Moving Forward Group, a team of experts by experience facilitated by Skills for People. Formed in 2018, the group has been championing inclusion and empowerment for seven years. Their leadership ensures that the voices of those who matter most are at the heart of everything we do.
Focus for 2025: The 7 Keys to Citizenship
Each year, we choose a theme that matters. This year, the spotlight was on the 7 Keys to Citizenship—a model that PIPS has now embedded into its training. Over several months, The Moving Forward Group explored what these keys mean in real life. They even created postcards to share their personal reflections, making the concept tangible and relatable.
Planning With Purpose
Organizing the day was a true team effort:
- A central Middlesbrough venue for easy access.
- Travel costs covered to remove barriers.
- Quiet spaces available for those who needed them.
- And yes—food was high on the agenda (because good conversations often start over a good food).
A Day of Engagement
The event was designed to be interactive and inclusive. Highlights included:
- Presentation: Achievements from the past 12 months.
- Role Play: Bringing the 7 Keys to Citizenship to life.
- Discussion Tables: Exploring four key areas—Freedom, Money, Home, and Life.
At each table, conversations focused on:
- What’s important to me?
- How do staff support me?
- What could be better?
What’s Next?
The insights gathered during the day are just the beginning. The Moving Forward Group and managers will meet to review feedback and create an action plan. Together, we’ll turn ideas into meaningful change.
Reflections
The verdict? People loved it. Attendees said the day was enjoyable and accessible, while staff found it informative and inspiring. It was more than an event—it was a celebration of citizenship and a commitment to keep improving.
